9. Be wary of pop-up windows that appear on your computer screen Few things are more annoying when surfing the internet than pop-up boxes that appear on your screen. Some claim you are a lottery winner, others pretend to be "important security" messages.Don't click on them.Not even on the CANCEL button or the X in the top righthand corner of the box.Because sometimes, no matter where you click on that box, you are asking for trouble. Instead, to get rid of that pesky box, press Ctrl-W (if you're using a Windows computer) or Command-W (on a Mac).
